Practical International Name Management - Calling/Known as/Preferred name

Definition

A person may have the name they are given at birth and/or that used for official purposes, and another name used in everyday life. This is not the same as a nickname as it is not necessarily derived from the person's given name.

Examples

• A person in The Netherlands may be given the names J.C.M.P. (Johannes Cornelis Maria Pieter) at birth but be known as Hans or Cees.
